RSSAnand, Bindra Felicitated in Kolkata

Sourav Ganguly is one of the most respected sportsmen of the country. There are not much sportsmen in the country that Dada would be “honoured” to share the stage with. But on Thursday at a city hotel, he couldn’t help feeling that way when he was sharing the limelight with Viswanathan Anand and Abhinav Bindra.
The function organised jointly by Sambad Pratidin and Greymind Communication with an aim of honouring two of India’s greatest sportsmen had a special guest. One of the best cricket captains the country has seen, Sourav Ganguly attended the function to felicitate both stalwarts of Indian sports.
Ganguly at the function said that it is a pleasure and honour for him to share the stage with two sportsmen who are the best not only in India but in the world. Both are genuine role models for everyone.
Ganguly also added that he has followed Anand’s progress closely and the most outstanding thing about him is his prolonged run at the top. You may reach the top but to sustain, you need exceptional work ethics. And it’s difficult to match Bindra. But Ganguly was confident that one day someone else will achieve what he has.
The concept of the programme was unique, and a combating theme against terror appeared slightly discordant. But nobody complained and in keeping with the mood of the day, Anand and Bindra said they were delighted to be here. Anad said that he was proud of being in Kolkata as this city has always shown respect and honour to sportsmen. A small film on Ganguly was also screened. Everyone went back happy despite that because the day gave them a chance to see three men on a stage whose collective contribution to Indian sport is far bigger than tales of players calling it a day.
