Putting in Style

Putting in StyleMany people say that Putting is all about “feel”. There has to be some magical “feel” inculcated in the process as to ‘put’ it in style. In this article, we shift our focus towards the tricks and techniques of putting in style. Read on.

Imagination works! Close your eyes and try to imagine playing golf. Sounds crazy? Well, we say that this is one of the best techniques to hone your putting skills. For this, you don’t need a ball, just a putter. (Sounds crazier but it surely works!) Stand on the practice green and move into your normal putting position. Now, personify the ball on the green. Line it up with the hole as you do in the real case. Next, swing the putter exactly how you do in the presence of a ball. Close your eyes and repeat the stroke. How do you feel? Feel better? Yes! That’s the trick!

Start swinging your putter gently. FEEL the pressure of the grass by pulling on your putter delicately. Keep on doing the backward and forward swings. Feel the delicacy of the grip you need on your putter. Maintain the same gentle grip throughout the exercise. During the entire exercise, you should not squeeze hard on the club. Again, practice this movement with your eyes closed.

After doing the above exercise, you will be able to play with the ball. So, place a ball on the ground, keep in mind the movements during your exercise and execute. Result- you will be actually putting in style!

How to Choose Golf Clubs

How to Choose Golf ClubsWe dedicate this article to the Golf sports enthusiasts who want to know about how to choose the right Golf clubs.

A Golf club has three parts- the head, the shaft and the grip. There are three woods eight iron and a putter in a standard set of Golf clubs.

Drivers & Fairway woods:
Drivers and Fairway woods are used to hit the longer shots. Most golfers would choose these golf bats if golf hole that is a par four or five from tee to green. These clubs are used to hit longer shots. The driver, or the 1 Wood, has the lowest loft of any golf club. Loft is the angle of the club face that controls trajectory and affects distance. A driver has a loft between 7 and 12 degrees. #3 and #5 fairway wood are preferred by most of the golfers to include in their equipments. A #3 wood has a loft of 15 degrees while a #5 wood has a loft of 18 degrees. The higher the golf club number, the higher the loft. The #3 and #5 wood are commonly called as fairway woods since they are most often used during the second shot of play.

Hybrids:
Hybrids are the latest addition to golf clubs. It is a unique combination of iron and wood. Long irons are now replaced by the hybrids. One of the versatile pieces of the golf club, hybrids come in a range of four lofts - 16 (#2), 19 (#3), 22 (#4) and 25 (#5) Degrees.

Irons:
Golfers use irons for shorter distance. These help to acquire more control as compared to the drivers and fairway woods. The degree of iron increases as you get closer to the green. A standard set of irons consists of #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9 and the PITCHING WEDGE (PW).

Wedges:
Wedges are generally used between 52 and 56 degrees in loft. The Pitching Wedge (PW) is the highest lofted iron that comes in a standard set. They are extremely useful for your short game. So, keep a good selection of them in your club.

Golf tips for beginners

Golf tips for beginnersAre you a beginner in Golf sports? Want to gain expertise in the game? If yes then here are a few tips to follow which will surely improve your performance in the game. Read on.

The warm up session:
During the warm up session, you need to practice a few puts, stretch and then hit a few drives. Most importantly, arrive on time or if possible, half an hour early.

Pre-shot:
Most of the well known professionals undergo the pre-shot routine. Believe me it surely helps improve your approach to the shots! During the pre-shot, stand behind your ball and look towards your target and then line yourself up. Your body should be in a parallel position and your eyes fixed on the ball. With the pre-shot sessions, you will naturally develop the position and thereby become a consistent player.

Maintain consistency:
Consistency is required for all games including golf. You need to give your best shot every time you enter the field. So you have had the warm up sessions and some swinging practice sessions. Now it is the time to start out a steady and controlled swing! (Remember, steady and controlled are the key words). Doing the practice by merely approaching the ball and slugging away won’t serve the purpose. You need to maintain a slower swing. I suggest you to stay away from the water, trees and sand because it is really frustrating to watch the ball wiz off into the tress or plop down in the pond or when the ball gets trapped in the sand. So, it is better to stay away from the rough stuff. When you get properly trained in swinging it slowly, you can then concentrate on a faster swing and more distance.

Last but not the least tip, Practice, Practice and Practice!!!! Take lessons, browse through the Internet and search for videos of golf tutorials and slowly but steadily, gain expertise in Golf!

“Putting” in style!!!

“Putting” in style!!!Putting in the game of Golf highly influences your scores. So, in order to do it in the best way, you need to combine the fundamentals of putting and your own style of executing the task. Here are a few tips to best accomplish the task and thus score high.
How to hold the putter?
Hold your hands closely while handling your putter. If your hands are at distance, this may lead to inconsistency. Try the reverse overlap grip technique followed by tour players- keep the forefinger of your left hand off the putter and rest it on the little finger of your right hand.

Grip pressure is as important as your grip. Apply the pressure lightly, rather than tightly.

How to look at the position of the ball?
Keep your left eye stared over the ball. This gives you a better idea of your putt’s intended line of travel.

How to move the putter?
If you are undergoing practice session, place another ball behind the ball that you intend to hit on the green. Then, hit the second ball and stop. This helps you to roll the first ball into the hole.

What should be the distance?
Don’t stand too far from the ball. This will lead to an improper stroke. Standing too close is also not recommended because this will force the backstroke outside of the target line. So, maintain a moderate distance from the ball which is neither too far nor too close.

What should be the position of your hands?
Keep your hands up front. To ensure a better roll, keep the hands slightly ahead of the ball.

What should be your body posture?
The body movement should be minimal while putting. Your head and shoulders should stay in place and not swaying.

Follow the fundamentals, practice well and see the results- the ball will actually start to fall frequently!

Nicklaus Basking In the Glory of Victory- Golf

Nicklaus Basking In the Glory of Victory- GolfThe most memorable part of the 1986 Masters wasn’t the shot-making itself; it was the roars echoing through Augusta National every time Jack Nicklaus sank another birdie or eagle putt.
Other golfers could only pause between shots waiting for the din to die down. Nicklaus, 46, kept plodding along, feeding off the cheers and shooting an astonishing back-nine 30 for a 65 to win by one and claim a record sixth Masters title.
There wasn’t one shot that won it for the Golden Bear there were several, and not all of his own doing.

There was his eagle at 15 after hitting 4-iron to 15 feet; the short birdie putt at 16 after nearly holing his tee shot; the double-breaking birdie putt he drained at 17 to take the lead; and the long lag putt at 18 that left him a tap-in for par.

Playing behind Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros had led by two going to 15 before chunking his approach into the water for the first of two late bogeys. At 18, Tom Kite, down one, hit a 6-iron that released nicely to within 12 feet of the hole. But his birdie putt to tie lost speed and slid past the cup’s left edge.

The last to challenge Jack was third-round leader Greg Norman, who birdied 14, 15, 16 and 17 to catch Nicklaus at nine under, only to fall apart at 18. The Shark inexplicably blocked his second shot well right into the crowd, then was unable to get up and down for a par that would have forced a playoff for the ages.
