Manchester City finally had a break after four matches and they finally won. Manchester City produced a spirited second-half to battle back to beat Tottenham at Eastlands and claim their first win in four Barclays Premier League matches.
Robbie Keane had put the visitors in the 32nd minute by clipping a left-footed shot past Joe Hart.
However, just before the hour Stephen Ireland poked home from close range before Nedum Onuoha’s powerful header clinched a first victory since the Manchester derby on February 10.
Ireland’s strike ended a six-hour 14-minute goal drought stretching back to that success over United and provided the catalyst for a much-improved display from Sven-Goran Eriksson’s previously struggling side.
It was City’s first win in six home matches and their first victory over Tottenham since April 2003. For the Tottenham Spurs, however, the result capped a miserable week which saw them dumped out of the UEFA Cup on penalties by PSV Eindhoven.
It had all begun so well for the visitors as Keane went close to opening the scoring in the fourth minute as, after exchanging passes with Aaron Lennon, he turned Onuoha close to the by line but curled a shot with the outside of his right foot narrowly wide of the far post.

Wildcards always seem to have a way to surprise. Maybe that’s why they are given wildcards. Stupid me!
Angela Haynes, a wild-card entrant from nearby Irvine, overcame a 4-0 first-set deficit to beat Italy’s Sara Errani 7-5, 6-2 on Wednesday in the first round of the Pacific Life Open.
The 23-year-old Haynes, ranked 221st, was playing just her third WTA match of the year. She will face defending champion Daniela Hantuchova in the second round. Hantuchova is trying to become the first player to win the event three times.
Ashley Harkleroad also advanced, beating the Ukraine’s Tatiana Perebiynis 6-2, 6-0. Jill Craybas edged Czech qualifier Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 7-6 (2), 6-4, while Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova beat Meilen Tu 6-4, 6-2. In the day’s final singles match, France’s Stephanie Cohen-Aloro routed Lilia Osterloh, 6-1, 6-2.
All 32 seeded players have first-round byes. Hantuchova is seeded fifth behind Ana Ivanovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic and Maria Sharapova.

Arsenal gave a dismal performance at the JJB stadium on Sunday. They were held to a goalless draw by Wigan in the Barclays Premier League. This was the gunners chance to make the lead between them an Manchester United to four points, now they are just two points at the top of the table and Man U still have a game in hand.
Wigan is now in 13th position, Bolton is just three behind and has played a game less. Arsenal seemed at a loss, and did not display any of the magic they had on Thursday against AC Milan. Emmanuel Adebayor had the Londoners’ best chance inside the first minute but Latics goalkeeper Chris Kirkland made a smart save to deny him.
Elsewhere on the FA cup scene, there is a bit of shocking results. Manchester United was beaten by one goal to Portsmouth and are out of the scene. It has been a weekend of upsets as Chelsea is also out after a 0-1 score to Barnsley. The FA cup has seen the biggest show of chance, as the four-copeting teams are all considered underdogs. None of the big four teams are in the semi finals this year.

Winning streaks are winning streaks no matter how they are won. The Houston Rockets are making history by winning 20 straight games. The Atlanta Hawks had to face the brunt of the Rockets power and the score read 83-75 on Wednesday night. The Rockets joined the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (33 straight) and 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks (20) as the only teams to win 20 or more in a row.
The Rockets are on an upswing and seem to be making a beeline for the Western Conference. Though the win against the Hawks was anything but easy and not very graceful, winning is winning and the coach does not seem to mind. “It may be the ugliest thing we’ve done, but it might have been the best one,” Adelman said, “the way we fought through it.”
The team is really high on morale and they wish to continue their good form and good luck. Twenty straight games is not a matter of joke, now is it?

Nadal is at his best again and others better watch out. Defending champion Rafael Nadal kicked off his title defence at the Pacific Life Open on Saturday with a 6-3 6-3 victory against qualifier Santiago Giraldo of Colombia. The going looks good for Nadal and this may be his title again for keeps this year again. At least that’s what all his fans are wishing for.
The second-seeded Spaniard won the first of his six titles last season at Indian Wells with victory over Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and will take his next step to opening his 2008 account in the third round against American Donald Young, who defeated 32nd seed Feliciano Lopez of Spain, 6-4 6-7 (3/7) 6-2.
Nadal, 21, is hoping to keep the pressure on world number one Roger Federer at the top of the world rankings after moving to within 350 points of the Swiss ace. Federer opens his challenge against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on Sunday. This is probably the closest Nadal has come to Federer and at this point, the former is playing at this best, while Federer is not.
This is what all his fans echoed, “All the best.”

The iceman in red is all set to go and defend his title against all comers. The track at the Austrailin GP is going to get pretty cold as Kimi and Hamilton slug it out on the first race of the season. The defending champion, Kimi Raikkonen, is all set with his usual cool self as he is ready for Hamilton and the others.
Coming from an unconventional motor sporting background, the Finn had to claim a ‘Super License’ from the FIA to be made eligible for participation in F1, Peter Sauber allowed the rookie a few tests during the dawn of 2000 and was quick to sign him up for the succeeding season.
Back in 2000, in his very first race at the Australian GP, he got himself a point. Although, he has gone a long way since then, this track has special memories for him. His efforts in his debut season with Sauber proved to be good, as Ron Dennis - who was in lookout for a replacement for Mika Hakkinen - was quick to rope Kimi into McLaren. It was loud and clear that yet another Flying Finn had arrived in Formula One. Do not miss anything this season, as they are all going to be “scorchers”.

Derby was on the wrong side of the goal against Chelsea especially after they had to face Chelsea after their FA cup exit. Chelsea had an exit from the FA cup and Derby seemed to come along at the wrong time to face the wrath of the loss from the FA cup. All the pent up anger came out and “poor Derby” had to stand and watch as goals were finding their way into the back of their net. It seemed as if the Derby club had given up hope after the first couple of goals. The final result, a score line that read as 6-1. Frank Lampard had a day to remember as he scored four goals.
The match was a pleasure to watch, not necessarily for Derby fans, and put faith back into Chelsea. The results puts Chelsea back near the top of the table and are only five points behind leaders Arsenal which is actually not a very good news for Arsenal fans. The revenge of a wronged team is always fun to watch and this match was a bloodbath. Poor Derby!!! It is great fun to watch as revenge is always sweet, as long as you are not on the receiving end.

Thaddeus Young seemed to be the star during the 76ers match against the Bucks. Young, a rookie scored 22 points as the 76ers sailed to a 119-97 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Samuel Dalembert notched up 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Maurice Cheeks of Philadelphia was happy with Young’s performance. He scored 20-plus points and we didn’t run one play for him,” said Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks, after his team improved to 12-3 since Feb. 5. “That’s the way he plays. Thaddeus has been playing that way since we put him in there.”
Young was 8-of-11 from the floor and made all six free throws, making Philadelphia shoot a season high of 60.3 percent.
This win leads the 76ers to within one-half of the idle Washington in the Eastern Conference. This is the Bucks fifth loss in six games. Charlie Villanueva had 25 points and eight rebounds for Milwaukee; Michael Redd added 19 points and Charlie Bell had 15 off the bench. The Bucks were without starting guard Mo Williams, who missed his third straight game with an abdominal strain, and forward Yi Jianlian, who also missed his third straight game with a sprained ankle. I had the opportunity to see the game live and I could see instances of a “Michael Jordon” in this rookie. I might be wrong at the end of ten years from now, but this kid has the spark in him to be at the top with the very best.
