Comments New Zealand rugby faces drought of players
A recent report states that ‘The Next Generation’ of New Zealand is shunning rugby aside. The report suggested that the youngsters are not being able to find role models in the current rugby players as a result their commitment towards the game is solely decreasing. New Zealand, one of the most competitive rugby teams in the world have seen a steady decline in the number of players that graduate from university and also in players that are coming into the national team. The drop has been estimated to around 10 percent.
According to this report, rugby has not been instrumental in creating the modern youth as they have been termed “non-committers” who “give up easily in the face of excellence” and “do not seek pathways to improvement”. This is truly disheartening, especially where rugby is such a celebrated sport. If things maintain this linearity in progression, it wont be long when rugby might be deported to a “b-grade” sport in New Zealand. My advice to you teenagers, “WAKE UP!!!!! SAVE YOUR SPORT!!”
