At last after wide speculations and much waiting, England team arrived in India. Subsequent resumption of their tour could provide a diversion from the depressing aftermath of the terror strikes in Mumbai that killed around 200 people. As expected, it took several security checks and long hours of deliberations before Kevin Pietersen and his men returned back to the country that has witnessed its worst terror strike.

At around 8 pm, Pietersen walked out of the airport with a shy smile on his face. He was greeted by a long chain of khaki-clad cops who cordoned off his path towards the bus. Pieterson waved to the crowd waiting for a glimpse of the team.  The area was packed with security personnel, onlookers and media persons. While the crowds cheered for the captain, there was a collective sigh of relief when they spotted the tall figures of Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison. The list of players was evident that the England team is not here as a mere return to make a token statement.

A Tamil Nadu Cricket Association official present at the airport expressed satisfaction over the team’s decision to come back to India. He said, it would have been a real setback for India, if the English side would have decided not to go ahead with the tour.   This would have multiplied the security fears and foreign teams would have thought several times before coming to India. It would have been bad for Indian cricket, and worse for international cricket.
