![]() |
Who was the first to call cricket as unofficial religion of India and Sachin a God? Whoever may be, but he is right. Cricket spins in a lot of wealth any other game. And India is the land, where cricket reaps maximum harvest. The business of cricket is spread beyond the ICC and the BCCI. The latest three year deal between Sachin Tendulkar and Iconix, a newly formed marketing arm of international advertising giant Saatchi & Saatchi will bring an easy $40 million into Sachin’s account. His business venture of restaurant’s Tendulkar’s and Sachin’s do bright business in Mumbai. Thanks to master blaster’s brilliant knocks. He also is into a joint venture with the South India-based Manipal Group for healthcare and sports fitness products. Sachin is also about to negotiate with Virgin Comics, owned by Richard Branson. He list of sponsors include big names like Pepsi, Canon, MRF, Sunfeast, Pantaloons, Audemars Piguet and G Hanz.
Sachin Tendulkar is not the only player to taste the monetary success. Another star batsman and former captain Rahul Dravid, earns an approximate annual fee of $3.5 million from endorsement deals. He endorses Reebok, Britannia Tiger, Sansui, Bank of Baroda, Max New York Life, Hutch and a series of other products. His tie-up with Reebok began in 1998 and is still going strong. By endorsing big names including Hero Honda, Puma, TCL, Tata Indicom and Sahara, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly earns a whopping sum. He charges around $350,000 per endorsement, which is not a bad amount.
Well, the payment that the players receive per game is also not bad. The BCCI has pays eight top players an annual retainer of $115,000, while Grade B players get an $81,000 retainer and those in Grade C get a sum of $46,000. Apart from this, they also get a match fee of $5,800 per test match and $3,700 for ODI matches. Well, now you can start calculating that how much a player will be earning from his cricket career. So, as I said earlier, there is nothing wrong in calling the players Gods. They are truly millionaires by every inch.
