F1 to reach India by 2011
![]() |
India may now become the new venue for Formula One race. Just you may have to wait for next three years. If to be believed the words the sport’s commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone, India will host the F1 event in 2011.
He has made it clear that India is definitely in their list of venues and is seriously considering of it. Most probably India will get a space in the calendar of 2011. Ecclestone made this clear to Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. He was replying to a question on the future destinations of the sport.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi had made an announcement last year that India may host Formula1 in 2010. But two weeks ago in Ecclestone suggested a delay in the dates by one year. While speaking to reporters in reporters in Singapore, he told that the game may reach India in 2011.
Three venues including Moscow are also considered as new venues for F1.
There are official discussions going on about considering Abu Dhabi as new venue on the 18-race calendar for 2009. Earlier this year Singapore and Valencia were added for this season, with North America left without a grand prix for the first time in 50 years after Canada got axed.
According to Ecclestone, things work out in America in a different way. Certain world events, like Formula One in some countries or the Olympic Games, are financed by the state. While in America they are organised by private entities, who aims big profit even the first whistle is blown for the race. This is something indigestible. Singapore will be holding Formula One’s night race, which is the first of its kind and would remain the only one run under floodlights next season even if all the Asian races could in theory be held at that time. Ecclestone finds it hard to understand why there is a demand for holding the European races after dark.
