Golf: A Sum of 954000 for O’Hair
![]() |
To win a golf tournament is to get rich instantly. Similar was the case when Sean O’Hair won the PODS Championship, collecting a tidy sum of US 954,000. The weather conditions had been horrible throughout the tournament and the standings of who would win were anybody’s guess. O’Hair defeated one of the frontrunners, Stewart Cink after Cink managed only a birdie on the first two holes to fall four behind. O’Hair on the other hand finished at four-under 280.
This is the second win for O’Hair who last won the 2005 John Derre Classic. Sean was quite behind at the end of the third round but managed to move ahead. O’Hair wrested the lead from Cink when he made a 32-foot putt for birdie on the par-three 16th hole to move to five-under and make a dividend from Cink’s mistakes on the first two holes and on the 16th hole. O’Hair hardly was seen as a threat to clinching the title, with Cink leading the third round and Geoff Ogilvy, Brandt Snedeker and Mayfair following close behind. O’Hair carded a two-under-par 69 to win the PODS Championship by two strokes. Although I am not a golfer myself and I am not head over heals about this sport, even I could not leave my seat when the final day match was in progress.
