Kawasaki team manager clears up Press speculation
![]() |
Kawasaki´s Competition Manager Michael Bartholemy has downplayed the speculations raised by the Press about the Japan squad trying to approach Fiat Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi to hire for 2009 ride.
Bartholemy stated: `There was a story in an Italian magazine recently after a journalist came to me and asked me if we have any interest in Valentino.´
The speculation was raised in a newspaper quoting Bartholemy as saying Kawasaki team was trying to hire the Italian motorcycle racer who is multiple MotoGP World Champion. “We are interested in Valentino, even though I’ve never spoken either to him or his manager. But I’d like to and soon, because this would be the perfect time,” the newspaper quoted Bartholemy as saying.
The team boss, however, says Kawasaki have not considered going after Rossi.
“I said we would have to be stupid not to be interested because he is the rider in the world championship.
“But we have never spoken to him and there is no contact between Kawasaki and Valentino Rossi” was Bartholemy’s statement.
He added: “We look for riders who can get results. That’s the most important thing, we are involved in MotoGP to get results, so we are looking for somebody for our future.”
Kawasaki currently runs riders John Hopkins and Anthony West in the premier class, with the former´s fifth place in last week’s race- the best result for the team so far in 2008.
