Kris Srikkanth: The Master Batsman

Krishnamachari “Kris” Srikkanth, popularly known as Kris Srikanth, the former Indian Test player and skipper was born on 21 December, 1959 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Known as one of the best classy batsman of Indian side, Srikkanth made his debut in ODI in Ahmedabad in 1981 against EnglandHis Test dabut happened in the same series at Mumbai at the age of 21. He played the role of openenr with Sunil Gavaskar. Both had entirely different batting approaches. While Gavaskar was more of an orthodox technical batsman,
Srikkanth was a prolific hitter and a swashbuckling batsman. This right hand batsman from Tamil Nadu redefined batting techniques with his power hitting and gave wonderful starts to the team against even the toughest of oppositions.
This stylish opener with a keen eye and sharp reflexes had made aggressive attacking strokes with power and precision. His mindblowing strokes have made him a favourite among the cricket lovers for decades.
With the passing of the time, his strokes got matured and his aggression somewhat became a mainstay of the Indian side. He was the part of the Indian squad at the 1983 Prudential World Cup and and 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket. He was appointed a sthe captain of the India squad in 1989. He remained the captain of the Indian side for the tour to Pakistan in 1989 and managed to draw all the four Tests of the series, which was an honourable result. But due to batting failure, he was dropped from the squad. Kris Srikkanth made his comeback after two years and played for another year before being dropped again. He bid farewell to international cricket in 1993 after not being picked for the South Zone team.
Kris Srikkanth holds the credit of being the first Indian player to score a half-century and pick up 5 wickets in an ODI, which he did in 1988 at Vishakapatanam against New Zealand. Currently he is the Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket team.
