Michael ‘Air’ Jordan: The Legendry Basketball Prince
![]() |
Known as ‘Air’ Jordon in the company of friends for his famous basket shots, Michael Jordan is famous for his jumps in air. The legend of the 20th century Basket ball had expressed talents in sports at a tender age itself.
Born into a middle-class black family in Brooklyn, New York, he was disciplined boy in school. His father was in military. He pushed his sons hard in athletics. Michael was interested in baseball, the talents that took him into a Wilmington Little League team. He was passionate about basketball; it remained a distant dream as his stature was small for that. Michael was short and skinny in his younger days, which made him frustrated. He did a lot of efforts to grow tall as wanted always to be a tall boy in the friends circle. Michael was denied berth in the school basketball team in spite of being a good player. The short size was the villain here. This made him more competitive and determined. In his late school days, Michael started becoming tall; probably tallest among the boys in school.
Michael Jordan was a member of the North Carolina’s Chapel Hill College for three seasons. He also got into the NBA the same year and became part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1984 which won the gold medal.
Michael then joined the Chicago Bulls as a third overall draft pick. He became a star among the Bulls in a short time, which brought much recognition to him. He captained the Chicago Bulls to three World Championships in 1991, 1992 and 1993 before he announced his first retirement.
Michael gave up NBA in 1993 to opt for professional baseball. But he came back to NBA in 1995 and was named the league’s MVP for the 4th time and brought the team to their 4th World Championship in six years. Michael got into a one-year contract, which is the highest in the history of professional sports. This took him to the list of most high profile celebrities on the planet. He was the brand ambassador of Nike, Coca-Cola and McDonalds, and Air Jordan.
Michael Jordan said good bye to the basketball court on January 13, 1999 and joined as another-as CEO of his JORDAN brand, his business venture. He still remains as a legend in the court, a role model for the new generation basketball players.
