No Pressure on Me: Dhoni
![]() |
After taking over the captaincy, is MS Dhoni under pressure? If his words are to be taken, he says is not under any pressure from any quarter. Dhoni has taken up the captaincy from Anil Kumble yesterday. He will lead India in the fourth and last Test against Australia at Nagpur starting on Thursday.
Dhoni brushed aide the comment by Australian captain Ricky Ponting that his side will be distracted by Sourav Ganguly’s last international match, V.V.S Laxman’s 100th Test and the absence of Gautam Gambhir. Dhoni feels that it is a matter of pride for him to be a part of
V.V.S. Laxman’s 100th Test. ‘We just need to focus on the things we need to do. We have prepared well and executed the plans well in the series,’ said Dhoni.
To a question about the pressure of leading the side on the crucial match, Dhoni said that there is no difference whether you are leading the team for one match or for the full series. The responsibility will be all the same. Dhoni adds that the pressure will mount if a player is not in good rhythm. But now everything is going on well. All the players have contributed by taking wickets and putting on runs on board making things easier.
Definitely this player from Ranchi is missing Gambhir’s absence. Gambhir will have to sit outside after the International Cricket Council appeals commissioner upheld a one-Test ban imposed on him by Match Referee Chris Broad.
Gambhir is in good form having scored loads of runs. His sitting outside is no doubt a big loss, adds Dhoni. But he is confident of Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay who will make his debut at Nagpur. To a question, if Dravid will be made to open the innings, Dhoni said that the current decision is to make Murali open, but may be the things can change later. Dravid is under medication for flue and will be fit for the match on Thursday.
