Referee Under Fire Over Wrong Decision
![]() |
The Premier League’s youngest referee is now in trouble. He is now owed to explain his alleged errors to his top bosses, while another referee is under fire for simply sticking to the rules. At a time, when the match officials are struggling a lot to gain respect from players and managers, they are accused of spoiling the game with nitpicking decisions. As per the version of coaches, the referees lack consistency causing troubles.
The season began with the Premier League launching its “Get on with the game” program and players and managers signing a charter that says that they would avoid criticizing officials and will show respect toward referees.
But the truce didn’t seem to last long. It seems as if every week, managers and players run the risk of disciplinary action by coming out to the media what the referees got wrong.
The referees following the strict dikthats of the bosses not to answer back has made it an almost one-sided argument. The two latest incidents at the Premier League game happened between West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn and the League Championship meeting of neighbors Derby and Nottingham Forest, where 25-year-old Stuart Attwell is now under charge. Attwell who spends most of his time in the league below has become famous for awarding a goal to Reading in spite of the ball not crossing the Watford goal line. The Derby-Forest match ended in 1-1 draw on Sunday, angering Derby manager Paul Jewell.
Jewell has called Atwell a 25 year old kid who knows nothing about the game. He has raised concern that the wrong decision by the referee has caused serious effects on their game plan. Now Attwell will have to defend himself to Keith Hackett, a former referee who is now general manager of Professional Games Match Officials.
