Robredo Not to Replace Nadal
![]() |
Tommy Robredo has ruled the rumours replacement of him for injured Rafel Nadal in the Davis Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
Robredo said that the replacement of the top-ranked Spaniard is impossible. Nadal will not be able to play in the Nov. 21-23 final at Mar del Plata because knee tendinitis. Roberto said that the news of picking up by selectors, if happened would be a big surprise as it has been about 12 days since he has done anything. He added that he is afraid that if he could give some better results to the team.
Nadal ruled himself out of contention on Monday as his right knee is injured and is failing to respond to a week of treatment.
Nadal had earlier retired from the Paris Masters and had then pulled out of Masters Cup in Shanghai in order to recover for the Davis Cup.
Spain captain Emilio Sanchez Vicario is expected to submit the team list by Tuesday.
Robredo has been participating for Spain since 2004. But he has been not in team since the grabbing of the singles matches in a first-round victory over Peru this year. Since the victory at Bastad in July, Robredo has made it up to the quarterfinals only once and had to go back at the Paris Masters in the second round.
David Ferrer is expected to become Spain’s No. 1 singles player for the match up on an indoor hard court. He said that Spain is supposed to be extra motivated following withdrawal of Nadal. Ferrer has said that the missing of Rafa is a shame, but the madness of the calendar has left him fractured and nothing is available to replace him.
Nadal had earlier won both of his singles matches in Spain’s 4-1 semi final victory over the United States, while Argentina thrashed out Russia by 3-2 to enter its second final in last three years.
