South Africa Will Defeat Aussies: Arthur
![]() |
South African cricket team coach Mickey Arthur has expressed confidence in his team’s capability of being the first team to defeat Australia on home soil after 16 years. The West Indians were the last team to devastate the Kangaroos in 1992-93.
The Proteas, who arrived in the Australian soil on Sunday for a Test Series against Australia, appear well equipped to challenge the hosts.
While speaking to reporters at Perth Airport on Sunday, Arthur was seen fully confident of his squad’s
Chance ahead of the first Test at the WACA Ground on December 17.
Arthur said that he has been part of the team for the past two years and has been working hard together for a chance like this. The tour will bring the younger guys opportunities to grow. The South African team has come here as a pretty settled and deep unit. Arthur said that they have high regard and respect for Australia. They haven’t lost a home series since 1992-93, which is a great success. But this time things will be different. They are going to face a team which is all set to defeat Aussies here.
Mickey Arthur is confident of his fast bowlers who are learning all the time and have unbelievable potential. On side when South Africa has got Makhaya [Ntini] who bowls from a different angle, the other side has got Dale [Steyn] who swings it out. Morne Morkel is the third fast bowler, who is quick and bouncy. The three different quick bowlers are expected to bring different elements to the attack.
Arthur has made no secret of the importance this series holds for his nation and has liaised with Duncan Fletcher and Gary Kirsten - the previous two international coaches to have subjected Australia to series defeats - to boost his dossier on the Australians. The Aussies are a difficult team to beat in their own backyard, but this time we are here to do that, Arthur was heard saying to a newspaper at Perth yesterday.
