The best phase of Gautam Gambhir’s career came in 2008 when he scored 858 runs at an average of over 61 in 7 matches that included a double century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils in the first IPL auction in 2009 and became the second highest run-scorer of the inaugural season with 534 runs from 14 matches. He went on to became the captain of Delhi Daredevils in 2010 and was auctioned to Kolkata Knight Riders for $2.4 million making him the highest paid cricketer in the history of the game and is now the team’s captain.
