Wimbledon: Still Played on Grass courts

The Wimbledon Championships,or simply, Wimbledon, is one of the oldest tennis tournament in the world today. It is considered widely as the most prestigious Tennis tournament and is been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. Wimbledon finds berth as the oldest of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and is the only one still played on grass courts.
The Wimbledon tournament runs annually for a period
of 14 days from late June to early July. It has a climax being the men’s singles final, scheduled for a Sunday. Wimbledon is third in the annual Grand Slam season that happens after the Australian Open and the French Open. The U.S. Open follows it.
Wimbledon follows strict dress code for competitors, and ball boys and girls. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is the body responsible for staging the world’s leading tennis tournament. It is a private club founded in 1868 ans was originally known as ‘The All England Croquet Club’.
Wimbledon is one of the premier tennis tournaments in the world. That is viewed by 13,800 to 15,000 fans under a retractable roof. Wimbledon includes five main events, four junior events and four invitation events. The Wimbledon matches in the Gentlemen’s Singles and Gentlemen’s Doubles competitions are best-of-five sets. The Wimbledon tournament begins every year on the Monday falling between 20 and 26 June. It is played two weeks after the Queen’s Club Championships. Wimbledon is played for a period of 14 days, beginning on a Monday and ending on a Sunday. The tournament is played on nineteen courts composed purely of rye grass. At present, Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam event, that is played on grass courts. The ball boys and girls, known as BBGs, has a cruicial role in the smooth running of the tournament.
